Erasmus

Erasmus traveled across Europe on horseback to unearth manuscripts, print books, meet friends, and spread his humanist message. He lived in an exciting time during which the forms of knowledge transmission metamorphosed from oral to printed culture. He was interested both in the content of the texts he wrote, but also in the way they should take to convince. To do this, the humanist developed various communication strategies to thwart censorship, counter rumors, and manage to expand his audience. Born at the time when the printed book was beginning to spread (around 1470), he was one of the artisans and designers of the modern book and one of the most fertile thinkers of the idea of concord and tolerance.
